Career Services Consultant

HOW DID YOU GET HERE?

As an undergraduate, I was given the good advice to seek out the career services office on campus, which led to a position as a student assistant. This was my first introduction to career services. After graduation, I moved to South Georgia where I found work in Adult Education. While I helped students prepare for high school equivalency tests, I discovered I enjoyed discussing goals and next steps, and finding ways to support those students in their endeavors. When I moved back to Indiana, I knew that I wanted to continue working with students and helping them prepare to find success in their future.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT WORKING AT THE CCO?

The CCO has a wonderful, welcoming atmosphere with an environment that enourages learning and collaboration.

WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL JOB YOU HAVE EVER HAD?

My first job after college was as a census worker in South Georgia. Driving around rural Georgia to knock on stranger's doors and ask them somewhat personal questions was pretty interesting (and sometimes scary!)

ADVICE FOR STUDENTS:

Be open to talking to just about anyone. You don't know what you might learn, what opportunities could come around, or where a conversation might lead.

QUOTE YOU LIVE BY:

"To me, it seems the only pleasure in this world worth having is the joy we derive from living for those we love, and those we can help" - Gene Stratton-Porters, A Girl of the Limberlost

FUN FACT:

I have two library cards, one from the Tippecanoe County Public Library and the other from the Evergreen system. Libraries are great and have more resources than just books. For example: DVDs, community events, free wifi, public computers, local history documents, and more. Of course, they have books, but did you know you can search the catalogue over the internet and put those books on hold to pick up? Amazing!

FAVORITE THINGS:

The color green, the smell of lavender, chocolate caramel thumbprint cookies, Brand New Key by Melanie, and the feeling of something warm in a mug.
