Career Services Consultant

HOW DID YOU GET HERE?

Born and raised in Taiwan, I didn’t have too many choices regarding my future career. My parents, like most Asian parents, told me to work hard for a teaching career because it is a “stable” job. Therefore, I got a bachelor’s degree in English in Taiwan and a master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Teacher’s College, Columbia University. I have been a language teacher most of my life, teaching English in Taiwan and Chinese in the U.S., and gradually discovered my passion to work with students, but it was not until my daughter started her career searching that I started to pay attention to the career services offered at universities. Through the firsthand experiences of my daughter’s career searching, I noticed other possibilities for me to pursue. After meeting the talented and friendly people at CCO during the interviewing process and realizing the impact that CCO service will have on students’ future, I became determined to transition from teaching to being a career service consultant.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT WORKING AT THE CCO?

I like the people I work with at the CCO. They are so welcoming, friendly, helpful and patient. I also like the amazing variety of opportunities to learn new things at CCO and to work together with these wonderful people towards a common goal.

WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL JOB YOU HAVE EVER HAD?

I worked as a trip leader and the translator for Indiana Education Delegation to China in 2013 and was able to interact with different district superintendents and administrators at both a personal and professional levels.
