What's in the offer?
While job offer letters will vary from company to company, most of them contain some common things. The first step to approaching a job offer is to carefully read all the material sent.
Your materials will typically include the following information:
- Job Title
- Salary (or hourly wage)
- Work schedule
- Start date and end date (in the case of internships)
- Expenses covered
- Benefits (probably not included in an internship offer)
- Housing (provided or not provided)
- Date to accept offer by
LETTER OF ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
What is the next step? Send a thank-you email to the employer for extending the offer. Do not delay your acknowledgement of a received offer. In the reply, restate the title of the position and salary, express your appreciation for the offer. Indicate the date you would let the company know your decision.
QUICK TIP: At this point, if there are any unclear points on the offer, don’t be afraid to ask questions in your emailed response.
